Narayana Murthy : The name speaks it all. The Indian entrepreneur known for making the rare combination possible – Business with Ethics. The entrepreneur who was the first to place employees of his company under the asset side of Balance sheet. Indian Business World and I.T world can never ever forget the invaluable contribution of Narayana Murthy.


Mr Narayana Murthy – Is the pioneer of Infosys Technologies Limited, a global consulting and IT services company based in India. Born on August 20th 1946, a Electrical Engineer from National Institute of Engineering, University of Mysore graduated in 1967, with masters degree from IIT Kanpur in the year of 1969.

Rejecting job offers from companies like HMT, ECIL, TELCO, Air India, Mr. Murthy decided to offer his services at IIM – Ahmedabad as a Chief Systems Programmer, wherein he received the pay of 800 INR, but he consider that phase of his life to be the best one, where he got to learn many things.

Always excelling as a student, he always showed keen interest in learning new things and had shown inclination towards the practical application as compared to theoretical knowledge.Mr. Murthy then offered his services at Patni Computer Systems in Pune, where he met his wife, Sudha Murthy who at the time was an engineer at TELCO.

Mr. Murthy than founded Infosys with six other software professionals in 1987, and opened its first international office in U.S.A. The company started growing rapidly and soon the IPO was also launched. The company expanded its international operations from 1996 from India to Europe & UK. Also it is to be noted that Infosys became the first Indian company to be listed on NASDAQ, under the leadership of Mr. Murthy.

Mr. Murthy has designed and implemented the Global Delivery Model- the foundation for the huge success in IT services outsourcing from India. Today he serves many organizations like the UN Foundation, HSBC, Indian School of Business, IIT Bangalore etc have Mr. Murthy on their boards.

A humble man by nature, Mr. Murthy has received innumerable awards and recognitions over a period of time. Some of them includes being featured in Asia’s 50 Most Powerful People [2000] and 25 most influential global executives [2001], World Entrepreneur of the Year – 2003 by Ernst and Young, 15 most admired global leaders [The Economist 2005]

Specially to be noted that he was awarded the Padmashri, a civilian award by the Government of India.
