Idea Behind Naming YAHOO
The word Yahoo was given by Jonathan Swift in early 70’s and was also used in his book Gulliver’s Travels. It symbolizes a person who is repulsive in appearance and is barely human.
David Filo and Jerry Yang – the flag-bearers (founders) of Yahoo! — jokingly considered themselves yahoos. It’s also an interjection sometimes associated with Southerners’ and Westerners’ expression of joy, alluded to in their commercials that end with someone singing the word “yahoo.”
Yahoo also symbolizes Joy and Fun and the same can be seen from their sites, each single thing has a jolly good accent to it, supported by the usage of bright colors and vibrant graphics!
